Cleaning Helpers
If your child is anything like mine, he loves to help. Whenever the vacuum comes out he's running over to grab on and help. Same with sweeping. At first my reaction was to encourage him to do something else so I could get the task at hand done quickly. When he helps it usually takes 10 times as long as it would take me to do by myself. But then I realized that if I don't encourage him to help while he's interested, he isn't going to want to help later. It's more important to encourage helpfulness and spend time working together then trying to clean in a hurry.
If you would still like to get the cleaning done quicker than at a toddler's pace, you can buy a children's vacuum, broom, or mop. My son loves his vacuum. When it is time to vacuum I let him know and he runs off to get his vacuum which is stored right next to mine. This way it isn't seen as a toy, but a real vacuum of his own.
