Ultimate Cleaning Race
My older sister and I shared a room growing up so we would sometimes have a cleaning race. We would take turns picking things up and putting them away. One of us would time the other one for 1 minute intervals. While cleaning we would count how many items we picked up, and whoever had picked up the most once the room was clean would win.
Now that I am all grown up, my sister informed me that she would often pick up very slowly and and give me more than 2 minutes on purpose. I didn't care. I felt special every time I won. If you want to do this with your children, you can offer them fun prizes if they win. Let them camp out in a sleeping bag in the living room, stay up past their bed time, choose what's for dinner, or have their favorite dessert.
If you have more than one child you can encourage them to do this with each other, and have them offer prizes to each other. My sister and I had bunkbeds so my favorite prize was when she let me switch beds with her for the night. Let your children think of what they might want from their sibling as a prize.
