Letter Day

Imagine the fun of learning with letter day. Each day dedicate the day to a different letter of the alphabet. Cook foods that begin with the letter of the day, or cut letter shapes from sandwiches, pancakes, or anything else you can. Play games, read books, wear colors that begin with the letter of the day. You can see if your child can guess what the letter of the day is by the color of the dishes or what food they begin their day off with. Following are a couple of examples, but use your imagination and see what your children can come up with.

Letter P day can include pizza, pie, and pears for dinner (or potatoes and pork). Read puppy books, paint with pink and purple, go looking for pansies, pay for things with pennies (cheap things, you don't want to upset other customers,) plant something, practice peeing in the toilet (for the toilet training child,) wear pink and purple, and practice prancing. You can have your child make a list of 10 or 20 things that they did, saw, or wore that day that began with that letter. Keep the list so that when you do the same letter again next month you can see if you can come up with new ideas.

Letter D day can include dunking donuts in your drink, digging in the dirt, dancing, playing darts (with older children,) wearing dark colors, acting dreary, serving all foods in dollops, playing will dolls, acting ditsy, looking for daisies and daffodils, doing dishes, going down town, play with the dog (or act like a dog if you don't have one,) or dash around all day.

Letter B day can include wearing blue or brown, eating barbecued beef, beets, beans, blueberries, and brownies, being bashful, bending over a lot, playing with balls, being brave, wearing bandaids and bandanas, avoid eating boogers, bark like blood hounds, buzz like bees, bare bottoms, make it baby day if you have a baby in the home, look for birds, bees, buses, bunnies, and blue sky, and read books.

If you come up with clever ways to celebrate a letter day, please share your ideas.
